Sol: Scientists have invented a shape-shifting wheel that can easily overcome obstacles in its path.
Invented by scientists at the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM), this wheel works by reducing the stiffness of its surface and is capable of running on any surface.
Dong Il Park, head of the institute’s Advanced Robotics Research Center, said that this new technology of shape-changing wheels, inspired by the surface tension of liquid droplets, overcomes the difficulties encountered by traditional mechanical devices (such as the uneven surface of the legs). (obstacle crossing of a robot and a wheel cluster) can help increase handling.
Unfortunately, many areas are not wheelchair accessible due to uneven terrain. This new technology will increase accessibility for wheelchair users.
The best feature of this wheel system is that it does not require any complex machinery or sensors.
