ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appreciated the decision to end tax exemptions and concessions in the budget.
According to sources, the IMF appreciated the tough economic decisions in the budget and called them necessary for the economy. The IMF also demanded an increase in electricity and gas prices before July 10.
Sources in the finance ministry further say that the IMF wants immediate implementation of Nepra’s decision to hike rates and make electricity more expensive under the pre-emptive measures from July 1. Subsidy should be controlled by raising gas rates in the new fiscal year and IMF preconditions for new loan programs should be implemented.
The IMF delegation is likely to visit Pakistan in the second week of July.
