California: Technology giant Apple is for the first time allowing users of some of its phones to use used but genuine parts to repair the devices. This permission from the company is as an update to the repair scheme.
According to the company, this new scheme will be applicable on certain models, starting in the latter part of this year.
Until now, customers had to match the serial number of the device being repaired with the new part sold by Apple. If a used part is used as a replacement, a notification in the repaired iPhone keeps warning users that Apple could not verify the replacement part.
In some cases (such as Face ID or the Touch Eye sensor) the parts don’t work at all.
Now Apple says that the company has improved the system that will set the device after installation of new or used Apple genuine parts.
The company said that future iPhone releases will have support for biometric sensors used.
