FRANKFURT: Airbases of domestic and NATO forces in Germany have been sealed due to fears of infiltration.
German officials say a German military base has been sealed off for several hours after an investigation, while a NATO air base in the country suffered an attempted illegal entry by saboteurs.
The Bundeswehr base in Cologne has been closed due to “suspicion of attempted infiltration and sabotage,” German Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Arn Kolatz told reporters in Berlin.
A hole has been found in the security fence near the drinking water storage facilities, the army’s regional command told X.
The culprits were not traced and the site’s water was being tested as a precaution. The base was later reopened, while security has been beefed up, the statement added.
Soldiers and civilians at the Bundeswehr base have been advised not to drink tap water because the water supply may be contaminated, a French magazine reported.
