BEIRUT: Lebanese resistance organization Hezbollah has officially announced the funeral and burial dates of its two martyred leaders, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Hashim Safiuddin.
Hezbollah’s current Secretary General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, confirmed in a video statement that the funeral prayers of the two leaders will be held on Sunday, February 23.
Sheikh Naim Qassem said that due to the two-month war that followed Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s martyrdom, his funeral could not be held publicly, due to which he was buried privately. Now that the situation has improved, his funeral prayers will be held in a large public gathering.
He added that the funeral prayers of Hashim Safiuddin, who is considered his successor, will also be held on the same day. Hashem Safiuddin was elected Secretary General of Hezbollah a few days after the martyrdom of Hassan Nasrallah, but he was also martyred before the official announcement.
According to the organization, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah will be buried in Beirut, while Hashem Safiuddin will be buried in his hometown of Deir Qanun al-Nahr.
It should be remembered that Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was martyred by the Israeli army on September 27 last year in an attack on Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut, while Hashem Safiuddin was martyred in a heavy bombardment by the Zionist forces on October 23.
