WASHINGTON DC: US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated former soldier and TV host Pat Hegze to be his secretary of defense.
Trump said in a statement after the nomination that Pat Hegze is a tough, smart and a believer in America first.
When he is in office, America’s enemies will take notice. Our military will be great again, America will not retreat.
Pat Hegze has served in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay.
Elon Musk, who donated millions of dollars to Trump’s election campaign, has also been tasked with leading a new “Office of Government Performance”.
The president-elect says the billionaire businessman will lead the new office along with former Republican primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, although it is not clear what form the new body will take.
The Republican Party controls the US Senate and is moving towards a majority in the chamber as votes continue to be counted a week after the US election.
Meanwhile, a New York court’s ruling on Trump’s criminal conviction has been delayed again, with a judge postponing any decision until at least November 19.
