NEW DELHI: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Indian Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal has been sentenced to clean toilets and shoes for insulting the Sikh religion.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal served as Deputy Chief Minister of Indian Punjab for 10 years. During this period, he had abused religion in some of his decisions, due to which he was declared ‘tankhya’ (guilty of religious abuse) by the Akali Dal, an organization of Sikh religious leaders.
According to Gulf media, Sukhbir Badal has also confessed to the allegations made against him, after which he will now have to clean utensils, shoes and toilets in various gurdwaras as punishment from today.
Five senior Sikh religious leaders, led by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghubir Singh, also demanded that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working committee accept Sukhbir Badal’s resignation as party president and withdraw the title of Fakhar Qom given to former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Sikh priests at Akal Takht declared a ‘tankhya’ and said that Sukhbir Singh Badal would clean the bathrooms on December 3 from 12 noon to 1 pm. He has been asked to clean the bathrooms of Shri Darbar Sahib from 12 noon to 1 pm tomorrow and then wash the utensils for an hour and listen to Gurbani.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has been asked to wear a placard around his neck.
Sukhbir Badal, who reached the Golden Temple in a wheelchair due to a fractured leg, was asked to carry a ‘jhula on the wall’ and hold a barsha.
They have been asked to wear the attire of ‘Sevadar’ and sit outside the Golden Temple for one hour each for two days. They will also have to devote one hour to distributing langar in gurdwaras.
