Lahore: Jails across Punjab have been ordered to install modern cameras to make them 100% secure.
According to the Punjab Home Department, every inch of the jails will be covered by cameras. All offices, prisoner barracks, security wall, jammers area, kitchen, hospital, library and all routes will come under surveillance.
A meeting of the Prison Reforms Committee was held under the chairmanship of Interior Secretary Punjab Noor Ul Amin Mengal, in which IG Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir, Additional Secretary Prisons Asim Raza and relevant senior officers participated.
It was decided in the meeting that 4500 modern cameras will be installed in 43 jails of Punjab. All places will be monitored by cameras in the style of high security zone. With the installation of cameras, every movement in the jail will come under surveillance. The newly installed cameras will be equipped with artificial intelligence technology. Control rooms will be set up in all jails, IG jail office and home department for monitoring.
