BEIJING: A new study has shown that the temperature of different parts of the face is related to a number of chronic diseases.
In a study published in the journal Cell Metabolism, researchers said that one day, doctors using artificial intelligence-powered thermal cameras may be able to quickly diagnose diseases in humans with this simple method.
“Aging is a natural process,” Jungdong Jackie Han of Beijing-based Beking University said in a news release. But this tool has the potential to promote healthy aging and help people live disease-free lives.
The research team previously used the face template to estimate how fast or slow the human body ages compared to actual age.
For the latest study, researchers examined the facial temperatures of more than 2,800 Chinese people between the ages of 21 and 88 to see if these readings could be used to measure their health.
The researchers fed the data from the people into an AI program that identified key areas of the face where temperature had a clear correlation with age and health.
Research has shown that diseases such as diabetes and fatty liver cause higher temperatures in the eye area than healthy people.
