Oslo: Previous international studies on face masks revealed a link between mask use and protection against respiratory tract infections. Many of these studies were limited and could not provide a definitive answer.
However, Norwegian researchers are now confident that new research, published in the leading medical journal BMJ, confirms that masks provide a protective effect against respiratory system infections.
4,647 people from across Norway were surveyed, half of whom were asked to wear masks outside the home in crowded places.
The results found that people who used more face masks reported fewer cases of infection.
The researchers believe that the study shows clear results that confirm that the use of masks can help prevent respiratory system infections.
