LANCASTER: Cyber security experts have warned that artificial intelligence-generated voices are at risk of tricking customers’ families into hacking their bank accounts.
Cybercriminals are imitating the voices of people on social media and using them for forgery.
There are artificial intelligence tools on the internet that fraudsters can use to imitate users’ voices easily. The easiest places for this are social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
According to Dr. Lowe from Lancaster University in the UK, AI-generated voices pose a threat to personal identity in at least two ways. The first risk is that voice transcription can bypass speaker verification software to gain access to a bank account. Another danger is that these sounds can be used to deceive other humans.
He pointed out that technology already exists that can make sounds so that listeners cannot distinguish between the original and the imitation. However, there are still different types of AI-generated voices.
