Islamabad: JUI has sought a two-month extension from the Election Commission for intra-party elections.
The intra-party case of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) was heard in the Election Commission by a 3-member commission under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner, in which JUI’s junior lawyer appeared and took the position that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) was an intra-party case. Elections are being conducted in phases.
The lawyer told the Election Commission that the elections for most of the district units have taken time. We have submitted the documents for which the selection schedule is given. The process of intra-party elections has started since July.
JUI’s counsel requested that we be given 60 days for intra-party elections, to which the Chief Election Commissioner remarked that 60 days was too much. The lawyer said that the matter of constitutional reforms was going on, there was busyness. On which the Chief Election Commissioner said that constitutional reforms have nothing to do with intra-party elections. You will not get respite after that.
The Election Commission adjourned the hearing saying to fix the hearing date later.
