KARACHI: It has been revealed that carbon dioxide is mixed with LPG and sold in Sindh, after which OGRA has taken notice and decided to take action.
There have been reports of carbon dioxide being mixed with LPG in different places of Sindh province, especially in Puno Aqil near Sukkur. A case was registered by sealing the case.
OGRA’s enforcement team after inspecting the LPG sites in Puno Aqil concluded that all the sites were operating in illegal and unsafe conditions. LPG bowsers were being used for storage instead of proper LPG tanks and substandard equipment was found.
In this regard, the authority members, enforcement, legal and LPG teams participated in the high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chairman Ogra Masroor Khan. The meeting discussed the dangers to potentially precious lives associated with this dangerous practice and urged the provincial chief secretaries, attorney generals and provincial advocate generals to take appropriate action against this illegal practice.
It was said in the meeting that OGRA is committed to exercise all legal options under its rules and regulations to end such illegal activities aimed at protecting the precious lives and property of the public.
Considering these findings, OGRA has decided to use all legal options to eradicate this illegal activity. The authority has directed its legal counsel in Pannu Aqil to follow up the case and present OGRA’s approach to protect the public.
OGRA has also sent letters to Commissioner Sukkur and Collectorate of Customs urging them to ensure safety at the local level by stopping illegal sale of LPG in the area.
It should be noted that LPG is a highly flammable gas that combines with carbon dioxide to create deadly hazards, including adverse environmental effects. Carbon dioxide has a higher pressure than LPG. Which can cause serious safety concerns as equipment designed for LPG does not function properly.
