Islamabad: The government has indicated legal action against those who try to obstruct the implementation of the decision to block mobile SIM.
According to sources, this decision was taken in a meeting on the occasion of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb’s visit to FBR headquarters, in which Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan also participated.
In the meeting, the FBR officials gave a briefing to the finance minister regarding the decision to block more than five lakh SIMs, on this occasion, the non-cooperation of PTA in the implementation of the decision was also discussed and it was decided that in the decision Action will be taken against those who attempt to create obstructions.
In the meeting, the Finance Minister also mentioned the meeting with the Army Chief, who is in favor of the decision to block the names of non-filers. He said that there is no reason for any person to oppose the decision to block sims.
Meanwhile, Chairman PTA Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rahman in a statement issued to the media emphasized on the need to strike a balance between the action of sim blocking and the protection of investment of telecom operators and said that our first objective is regulatory framework. Adherence to work and related legal provisions and protection of interests of telecom users.
According to sources, although the SIM cards of five lakh people are being blocked, no restriction has been imposed on the affected person’s access to a new mobile connection. The Finance Minister was informed that a mechanism is also being prepared to restore the SIMs of the return filers.
In the meeting, the Finance Minister directed to start the mandatory registration of retailers immediately. The meeting also discussed the disputed revenue issue of Rs 27 trillion, and it was agreed that only these cases would be taken to the higher courts for speedy disposal.
