SINGAPORE: A team of scientists has created cyborg cockroaches with robotic brains that are specially trained to save lives.
This invention of the Home Team Science and Technology from Singapore and the scientists of Nanyang Technological University will be able to get important information about the people trapped in the debris by sending it into small cracks after natural disasters.
The technology on the back of a live cockroach is a panel mounted that uses an infrared camera and multiple sensors to transmit and collect data.
The panel’s electrodes are placed over the cockroach’s nervous system and can be controlled by humans without difficulty.
Called the ‘Big Backpack’, the sensor, battery and camera weigh less than six grams in total, which means cockroaches can easily pick them up. Less time will be spent in the process of reaching out to the underprivileged.
