17 Muslim youths convicted of celebrating Pakistan’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final have finally been acquitted.
According to media reports, the police charged 17 Muslim youths from the village of Burhanpur in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh for celebrating India’s victory over Pakistan in 2017.
A Madhya Pradesh court declared the case fabricated and ordered the immediate release of the accused, taking into account evidence of the Hindu complainant and government witnesses and coercion of false statements by the police.
The accused, who were released in October 2023, had accused the police of beating them while verbally abusing them. Among the accused, a one-year-old father of two, committed suicide in 2019.
It should be noted that in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Pakistan won the trophy after defeating India by a huge margin of 180 runs.
