Islamabad: FBR says that 11 thousand 252 SIMs have been blocked till May 22 under Income Tax General Order.
According to the spokesperson of Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR), FBR is committed to promote tax compliance and tax culture. Under the Income Tax General Order, 11 thousand 252 SIMs were called till May 22.
The spokesperson further says that in a meeting with the telephone companies, the FBR informed the mobile companies about the decision to ban SIMs. The government’s decision to block the mobile phone SIMs of non-filers has to be implemented in any case.
The FBR has started physical inspection of records at the offices of telecom companies that have not submitted reports on blocking sims of non-filers, during which prosecution will be initiated by imposing penalties on non-cooperative telecom companies. Commissioner Inland Revenue Zone Four issued inspection orders under Section 175 of the Income Tax Ordinance.
Sources say that the FBR team inspected the office of a telecom company in Blue Area Islamabad on Wednesday, during which the officials of the company provided a compliance report about the blocked SIMs. The company confirmed to the FBR inspection team from its system records that the names of non-filers were blocked and the messages sent to the non-filers.
According to officials, the FBR orders asked the principal officers of three telecom companies not to submit the report by May 21. The fourth telecom company has obtained an injunction from the court.
