Scientists have discovered a unique fossil that does not belong to any type of flowering plant. This discovery sheds more light on the different types of plants that existed in ancient times.
Researchers first discovered these fossilized leaves in the Rainbow area of the US state of Utah in 1969.
A new analysis published in the journal Annals of Botany found that these fossil leaves are 47 million years old and belong to a unique plant whose flowers and fruits are not rare.
Earlier scientists believed that this plant belongs to the ginseng family.
But in the latest study, the fossil of this plant was further examined, which revealed that the leaves, fruits and flowers attached to the stem of the fossil were not like other plants in the ginseng family.
