The European Space Agency (ESA) has said that two satellites have been launched from India that will look like a large ship and will create an artificial solar eclipse while in orbit.
According to media reports, the agency said that the satellites going on the Proba-3 rocket will fly within millimeters of each other in orbit as if they were a large spacecraft.
The agency added that 14 member states of the agency are participating in the work that they hope will demonstrate a new highly skilled autonomous control in space.
Proba-3 was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in India, where the satellites were mounted on a four-stage rocket.
The agency’s Director of Technology, Detmer Pelz, said that Proba-3 took several years to develop and this new technology has been promoted through the agency’s General Support Technology Program. It is an exciting feeling to see this challenging enterprise enter orbit.
