The French aircraft manufacturer is working on an experimental super chopper that will be capable of flying at speeds of up to 260 miles per hour.
Airbus’s high-speed helicopter, the Airbus Racer, could potentially cut travel times dramatically. At its top speed, this chopper can cover the distance of 213 miles between Paris and London in 50 minutes.
Helicopters typically fly at speeds between 75 and 150 mph, but Airbus’ aerodynamic design has enabled the Airbus Racer to fly faster and likely be relatively less expensive to fly.
It has been reported that the helicopter consumes 20 percent less fuel when flying at a higher speed than a normal helicopter during the trip.
Airbus unveiled its racer in June 2017 and completed its first flight this year.
The purpose of this helicopter is to perform high speed missions. For example, Airbus says that this helicopter can be used for emergency medical services.
