ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee of the Senate has demanded a resolution to ensure equal representation from the provinces while it is necessary to have one member of the board to solve the population and problems of Balochistan.
A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Security was held under the chairmanship of Senator John Muhammad to resolve the structural and human resource issues of the Benazir Income Support Program. During which he expressed his indignation at the non-representation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in the BISP board.
The ministry clarified that the BISP Act of 2010 does not mandate quotas for the appointment of its board members, currently having 3 private members from Sindh and one from Punjab. The committee observed that 126 posts are vacant in BISP headquarters and 1,037 in provinces.
The ministry briefed that 480,000 families are benefiting from this program, however problems such as unregistered families due to non-provision of national identity cards have been identified.
