Islamabad: The Ministry of National Health has revealed that a suspected case of monkeypox has been reported in Pakistan.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, it has been stated that a citizen of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who came from the Gulf countries, showed symptoms of m-pox, on which his samples have been tested and sent for confirmation.
According to the ministry officials, the person infected with monkey pox has mild symptoms while a search has been started for those who came in contact with him to collect their samples.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of National Health said that all the provinces have been instructed to appoint focal persons regarding monkeypox, Border Health Services have also been instructed to strictly monitor all points of entry.
It should be noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the outbreak of a new type of mpox in Congo and other places in Africa as a global emergency. Mpox cases have been confirmed in children and adults in some African countries.
So far, 13 countries have reported Mpox cases while 517 deaths have been reported. More than 17,000 suspected cases of m-pox have been reported in African countries this year.
