Washington: A new study has revealed that cancer rates are increasing among the youth of the current generation.
Researchers found that half of the 34 known types of cancer are being diagnosed in successively younger generations.
For example, people born in 1990 have two to three times higher rates of pancreatic, kidney and small bowel cancer than people born in 1955, the researchers said.
Hyuna Sung, senior scientist and lead researcher for surveillance and health equity science at the American Cancer Society, said the findings add to evidence of an increased risk of cancer in later generations.
Early-onset colorectal cancer and some obesity-related cancers cover a wide range of cancer types, he added.
