Washington: A recent study has found that the coronavirus is spreading rapidly in wildlife.
Researchers report in the journal Nature Communications that the coronavirus has been detected in six common wild animals, including deer mice, opossums, raccoons, wild pigs, rabbits and red bats.
Furthermore, antibodies that identify the coronavirus were found in five animal species with exposure rates ranging from 40% to 60%.
Researchers say the highest risk of contracting the Covid-19 virus was found in animals near hiking trails and high-traffic public areas, suggesting that the virus may have been transmitted from humans to wildlife.
