London: A British court filed a charge sheet against a former BBC anchor for 3 counts of making, possessing and sharing child pornography.
Hugh Edwards, the BBC’s highest-paid news anchor, presented the primetime bulletin for more than 20 years, according to the World News Agency.
The news anchor is accused of soliciting and sharing indecent photos of the child on WhatsApp chat for money between December 2020 and April 2022.
He was suspended by the BBC when the matter first came to light in July 2023. Later on November 8, 2023, the police arrested the news anchor on these charges.
62-year-old Hugh Edwards resigned in April this year after this allegation came to light, but he said the reason for his resignation was ill health.
The BBC news anchor was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service on 26 June. He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Wednesday.
Background of the case
In July last year, The Sun newspaper made this shocking revelation in one of its reports that the mother of the victim boy spoke to us and accused the BBC news anchor of making obscene pictures of her son for money.
Speaking to The Sun, the boy’s mother claimed that the BBC news anchor had been making obscene pictures of her son for three years for a huge amount of money. My son is now 20 years old and suffering from severe mental anguish.
The BBC suspended one of its news anchors as soon as the report was published, but the identity of the anchor was not disclosed, nor was it said for what offense the host was suspended.
Edwards, a BBC news anchor, was later named and his wife, Vicky Flynd, said that her husband was ‘suffering from mental problems’ and had been admitted to hospital.
