Islamabad: The government has ordered strict monitoring of social media to prevent hateful and religiously provocative content.
The federal government has issued a letter to the chief secretaries and IG police of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan along with the four provinces for strict monitoring of social media.
In a post issued by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Fataf, it has been said that there has been an increase in the circulation of hateful content and incidents of religious incitement on social media. Such activities reflect the communal divide in the country and are likely to increase incidents of incitement.
According to the post, the country is facing a new wave of militancy due to hateful and profane content circulating on social media. Given the current situation, the country cannot afford any communal turmoil. Strict monitoring of inflammatory speakers including all sectarian organizations and associated elements related to social media and militancy should be ensured.
It has been further stated in the post that during Muharram-e-Harram, the speakers of Shola Bayan should be restricted to the respective districts by banning them from entering the districts and giving the Bayan. Cyber security should also be strictly monitored to stop the circulation of hate and inflammatory content on social media.
