Israel’s intelligence chief resigns over failure to prevent October 7 attack
The Israeli government has accepted the resignation of the head of the Intelligence Directorate, Aharon Haleva.
He is the first high-ranking official to step down over the failure to stop the Hamas offensive, with more officers expected to resign from the army.
Aharon Haleva will retire after 38 years of service in the Israel Defense Forces after his appointment as acting chief.
Aharon Haleiwa wrote in his resignation letter released by the military that on October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a surprise attack.
He wrote that the intelligence division under my command did not fulfill the task that was assigned to us.
