Karachi: The Sindh government has demanded the federal government to set a new support price of cotton at Rs 10,000 to 11,000 per maund.
Agriculture and Anti-Corruption Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehr has demanded from the federal government that the support price of cotton should be set at 10 to 11 thousand rupees per maund. The farmers of Sindh are suffering from severe problems.
In his statement released on Monday, Sindh Agriculture Minister further said that the target of cotton crop in Sindh this year has been set at 640 thousand hectares, while currently 20% of cotton has been sown in Sindh, expensive fertilizers, seeds, petroleum products. And agricultural drugs have increased the cost of farmers.
Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Maher said that the farmers did not get the proper price of cotton last season, so how will they cultivate the crop this time? Grow more cotton.
If the farmer gets a good price, he will cultivate cotton, cotton is needed for the country’s textile industry. If Sindh does not get its full share of water in the early kharif season, there is a fear that the harvest of agricultural commodities including cotton and rice will be low.
Ursa wants to make the agricultural land barren by not giving its share of water to Sindh, due to not getting the share of water, the production of cotton, rice, sugarcane and other crops can be irreparably damaged in Kharif season.
