The Senate Standing Committee on Interior unanimously approved four bills, including the bill for holding a peaceful rally in the federal capital, while deferring one bill.
According to the bill approved by the committee, a rally can be held in any area of Islamabad where the government gives permission, those who hold a rally or participate in it without the permission of the government can be jailed for up to three years.
Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman presided over the meeting of the Senate Committee on Interior, while discussing the bill, Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that this bill is up to the limits of Islamabad, even today there are containers in Islamabad and people are worried, the purpose of bringing the bill. The protest in Islamabad has to be brought under the law.
Senator Faisal Sabzwari said that apart from political parties, religious groups also come, Senator Samina Mumtaz Zahri said that the purpose of bringing this law is not to target any political party.
Senator Saifullah Abarone said that peaceful protest is the right of every citizen in the constitution, what happened yesterday on the Kashmir highway should have been raised the way former senator Mushtaq Ahmed was raised.
The committee sought a report from the Home Ministry on the illegal arrest of Mushtaq Ahmed and the treatment meted out to his family.
