Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Aamir Farooq has asked the Election Commission that why are they raising doubts about forced elections?
A hearing was held on Shoaib Shaheen’s contempt of court petition against the Election Commission for non-delivery of certified copies of election documents including Form 45 and violation of court order in N-47 Islamabad.
The petitioner and candidate NA-47 Shoaib Shaheen appeared on behalf of the Election Commission, Zaigham Anis.
Shoaib Shaheen said that the court order regarding the provision of certified copies was reversed, the court had directed to provide certified copies of the relevant documents which have not been found yet.
Lawyer Election Commission Zaigham Anees said that there has been a discussion regarding the case in the Provincial Election Commission Punjab, copies will be provided to them soon, one week’s time should be given to provide the certified copies.
The Chief Justice said, “Don’t talk like that. What is Islamabad’s relationship with Punjab?” Why not giving certified copies is their basic and legal right? Why are the doubts about the election of the people being forced? If Election Commission does not provide copies, should I order today? If a senior lawyer, former president of the bar has to run so fast, what will happen to the common people? Tell me now, how much more time will it take, one year, two years, three years? Five years is the term.
Election Commission’s lawyer Zaigham Anis assured to provide the certified copies before the next hearing, on which the court adjourned the hearing of the case till April 24.
