Washington: The United States has expressed deep concern over the sentences handed down to civilians by military courts in May 9 cases.
The US State Department, expressing deep concern over the actions of Pakistan’s military courts, said in a statement that Washington has reservations about the sentencing of civilians by military tribunals involved in the May 9 protests.
According to a foreign news agency, the US government has called these sentences against the principles of fair trial.
It should be noted that earlier, the European Union had also reacted to this decision and expressed serious concern and said that the decisions taken by Pakistan against civilians in military courts are a violation of international agreements.
The European Union had urged Pakistan in its statement to protect the rights of its citizens and guarantee a fair trial against them.
The British Foreign Office also criticized the trials of civilians in military courts, saying in a statement that military courts lack transparency and independent scrutiny, which raises questions about the process of justice.
The United Kingdom maintains that such actions violate fundamental principles of justice and violate public rights.
