KARACHI: Traders have sought permission from the government to export the surplus wheat in the country.
According to Chairman Cereal Association of Pakistan Muzmal Chappell, there is currently 3.9 million tonnes of surplus wheat in the country, due to which farmers are not getting good prices. A letter has been written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to seek permission to export the surplus wheat in the country.
He said that the government should immediately allow the export of wheat, flour and flour. There is a capacity to export 250,000 tons of flour, 250,000 tons of flour and 500,000 tons of wheat. Pakistan can enter the international market with surplus production. Negotiations are ongoing with the government for the export of surplus wheat.
Muzamal Chappell said that the export of surplus wheat would fetch good price to the farmers and also earn foreign exchange for the country. There are more than 36 million tons of wheat reserves compared to 32 million tons of reserves. Combined reserves of 31.4 million tonnes produced and carry-forward stocks of 4.6 million tonnes are in excess of 3.6 lakh tonnes.
According to Chairman Cereal Association of Pakistan, there is a risk of loss of stock if the excess reserves are not exported. At this time, it is time for the harvest of major wheat suppliers. Therefore, it is an important time to export wheat. The export of additional wheat will also improve the current account balance.
