TikTok has said that it will be forced to “suspend operations” in the US from Sunday unless the government intervenes before the decision on the ban is implemented.
According to foreign media reports, TikTok said in a statement that the White House and the Department of Justice have failed to provide the service provider with the necessary clarification and assurances that are essential to maintaining TikTok’s availability.
It said that unless the government immediately steps in to assure the video app that it will not be punished for violating the ban, TikTok will be forced to suspend operations from January 19.
It should be remembered that yesterday, the US Supreme Court had ruled to maintain the ban on TikTok in the US, citing national security.
The Supreme Court ruled to maintain the ban on TikTok if it is not sold to US citizens, and this decision was made unanimously by 9 judges.
The report said that TikTok is used by about half of the US population, but the court refused to protect the platform.
The decision said that the law passed by Congress does not conflict with the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which protects the right to freedom of expression.
The US Supreme Court justices have upheld the decision of the lower court, which had banned TikTok, ByteDance and other applications, against which the users of the said applications had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court.
The court said in the decision that there is no doubt that TikTok is a comprehensive and special platform for expression for more than 170 million Americans, which gives citizens the opportunity to connect, but Congress has declared its sale necessary to eliminate the threats posed by TikTok to national security.
A statement from the White House indicates that President Joe Biden will not take any action to save TikTok before the deadline, which is set for Sunday, while President-elect Donald Trump has opposed a ban on TikTok and will be sworn in on Monday.
Trump said in a statement on social media regarding the ban that the Supreme Court’s decision was expected and everyone should respect it and that my decision on TikTok will not be far off, but I will need time to assess the situation.
Trump said that during a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, TikTok and other disputes were discussed.
