Bamiyan: Three foreign tourists and a local citizen were killed and 7 were injured in the firing of gunmen in Bamiyan province of Afghanistan.
According to the report of the Reuters news agency, the Ministry of Interior of the Taliban government said that a foreign tourist was killed and 3 local people and 4 foreign citizens were injured in the firing in the central area of Bamiyan.
Interior Ministry Spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani said in a statement that armed persons started firing, as a result of which this incident occurred, but 4 persons have been arrested.
The nationality and identity of the foreigners killed and injured in the firing could not be immediately ascertained and the identity of the attackers could not be clarified.
Note that Bamyan is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is home to two historic Buddha statues, which were blown up by the Taliban in 2001 during their first term in power.
After the Taliban took over the government of Afghanistan in 2021, they vowed to improve the security situation in the country and it has improved to a great extent, which has resulted in the influx of foreign tourists and Buddha statues. Ticket sales for viewing have also increased.
