Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif increased the size of the Ramadan relief package from 7.5 billion rupees to 12.5 billion rupees.
The Prime Minister also issued instructions to increase the scope of the Ramadan relief package. He said that utility stores and Benazir Income Support Program as well as mobile units will also provide food items at cheap prices.
According to the current instructions, Ramadan relief package should be delivered to as many poor, indigent and deserving people as possible, initially 1200 mobile points and 300 permanent package relief centers are being established. From 1st Ramadan to the end of Ramadan, items will be provided at a lower price than the normal market under the relief package.
Apart from the designated places under the Ramadan relief package, the trucks will deliver cheap food items to the poor people in different areas, the location will be determined with the help of modern technology ‘GPS’.
A special video will also be released to guide the use of the mobile app. A digital technology enabled dashboard is being developed to monitor the sale of mobile flour, continuous flour supply while the mobile units are moving from one location to another, mobile and live footage of flour. Distribution will be continuously monitored.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the Ramadan relief package with a subsidy of seven and a half billion rupees on March 7, 2024.
Through the package, 3 crore 96 lakh families will be provided food items at cheap prices during Ramadan. Under the Benazir Income Support Program, flour, rice, dal, ghee, sugar, syrup and milk will be provided at below market prices.
Under the Ramadan relief package, food items will be provided to the deserving people at 30% less than the market price, Rs 77 per kg subsidy on flour and Rs 70 per kg subsidy on ghee.
