Riyadh: Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani fled the country in August 2021 when the Taliban took over power and now two and a half years later, he has appeared in Saudi Arabia.
In the viral videos on social media, it can be seen that former President Ashraf Ghani is in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. His family is also with him.
The former Afghan president was said to have fled the country to an unknown location on August 15, 2021, the day the Taliban took over Kabul. He was accused of fleeing with a huge sum of 169 million dollars from the national treasury.
Later, it was found that the former Afghan president first went to Uzbekistan and then to the United Arab Emirates. However, despite the passage of more than two and a half years, he was not seen in public.
It should be remembered that Ashraf Ghani was the President of Afghanistan from 2014 to 2021. He was called the US-backed president. Before that, he was the Vice Chancellor of Kabul University from 2004 to 2008 and the Minister of Finance from 2002 to 2004.
