Karachi: The first death anniversary of internationally renowned singer and actor Zia Mohiuddin is being celebrated today.
Famous Broadcaster Zia Mohiuddin was born on June 20, 1931 in Faisalabad, he graduated from Government College Lahore in 1949, studied in Australia and then in England.
He received training in voice acting, acting and directing from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London from 1953 to 1956 and for a long time showed his acting skills in Britain and played roles in many famous films and plays.
Zia Muhyiddin acted in famous director David Lane’s film ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ along with Hollywood actors Omar Sharif and Anthony Quinn.
He hosted the famous TV talk show ‘The Zia Mohiuddin Show’ from 1969 to 1973 which set new popularity records in Pakistan.
Zia Muhyiddin presented PTV programs like Payal, Chacha Chakan, Zia Sath and Jo Jaane Whe Jite while playing the hero opposite actress Rozeena in the Lollywood movie “Mujaram Koon”.
He held the charge of the Director of PIA Arts Academy from 1973 to 1977, while in February 2005 he was elected as the President of Napa when the National Academy of Performing Arts was founded in Karachi.
Zia Mohiuddin was awarded the Star of Distinction by the Government of Pakistan in 2003 and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan in 2012, while in 2017 he was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Pakistani community based in Dubai.
He died on 13 February 2023 in Karachi after a brief illness.
