A smartphone with specific safety features and monitoring capabilities has been introduced for the first time in the UK for children.
According to the American company, this setup provides children with an attractive alternative that is better than a simple mobile phone (which they may not like) or a high-end smartphone that does not have safety features.
Pinwheel devices give parents the option to monitor their children’s text messages and call history from a distance and set app and chat time limits.
Growing concerns about the effects of social media platforms and general screen time on children’s physical and mental health have forced phone companies and online platforms to think about parental options and safety features in recent years.
However, to deal with this problem, parents usually need to create an account on the platform or need a similar device.
But Pinwheel says parents can monitor their devices through a central online portal accessible from desktop or mobile, and parents can change settings over time, unlocking more features as children get older.
