Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as the 24th Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
In the National Assembly session, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq while announcing the results of the voting for the Speaker of the House said that Shahbaz Sharif got the support of 201 members.
When the session of the National Assembly started under the chairmanship of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, sloganeering also started. Sunni Etihad Council and PML-N members came face to face, shouting slogans of ‘no approval’ of ‘thieves’ and ‘fake mandate’, which made the House look like a fish market.
JUI-F boycotted the election of Leader of the House and walked out of the House during voting, while Akhtar Mengal remained present but did not vote for anyone.
As a result of the voting, Shahbaz Sharif, the joint candidate of the Muslim League-N and the allied parties, was elected as the Leader of the House. He got 201 votes while Umar Ayub, candidate of Sunni Ittehad Council, got 92 votes.
After the announcement of the results, Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari went and hugged each other.
Muslim League-N, People’s Party, MQM, Balochistan Awami Party, Stability Pakistan Party, Muslim League-Q supported Shahbaz Sharif.
Balochistan National Party supported Umar Ayub, candidate of Sunni Etihad Council belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
