Saudi Arabia has banned the use of names of holy cities for commercial purposes.
According to Bloomberg, under new laws in Saudi Arabia regarding product marketing, products cannot be named after the names of Mecca, Medina and other holy cities.
It will be mandatory to obtain permission from the competent authority before naming, branding and advertising your products after holy cities, otherwise you will have to pay a heavy fine.
Permission will also have to be obtained before using religious, political or military names, otherwise you will be fined 1.115 million Pakistani rupees, and a fine of more than 750,000 Pakistani rupees will be imposed for stealing an already registered name and using it for your products.
In addition, this law will also prohibit the use of names that are similar to local, regional or international organizations and are similar to any government agency.
