Beijing: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived on a visit to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. This is his first visit to a foreign country after being elected president for the fifth time in March this year.
According to the World News Agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin was warmly welcomed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Anthems of both countries were played. A grand reception was held outside the Great Hall of the People.
President Xi Jinping told his “old friend” Vladimir Putin that he is ready to work with Russia to maintain justice in the world and that China-Russia relations are conducive to peace.
The two leaders reiterated their commitment in the meeting that China and Russia have a long history of hard work to establish the current cordial relationship and both sides will play their respective roles in further strengthening the relationship.
A statement issued by the Russian President’s Office said that the two leaders will sign a joint declaration after the talks and attend a special ceremony to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The importance of the visit is also heightened by the fact that trade between China and Russia has increased since the Ukraine war and is expected to reach $240 billion in 2023.
