Recognized poet Parveen Shakir, who spread the flowers of fragrance and love in Urdu literature, has been separated from her fans for 30 years, but her poetry is still felt to spread like fragrance.
Parveen Shakir was born on November 24, 1952, in a literary family in Karachi. She started her literary journey in her youth. She also wrote prose, but she loved poetry. Her initial pen name was Bina. She gained special fame by writing ghazals and poems.
In 1976, as soon as her collection of poems, Kalam Khushboo, came out, there was a stir in literary circles and she was given the title of Khushboo Poet.
Parveen Shakir’s other works include Sad Barg, Khod Kalami, Ankar, Mah Tamam, Kaf Aina and Gosha Chashmah. Her poetry frequently mentions love, fragrance, flowers, wind and butterflies. Even after many decades, the fragrance of her poetry has not faded.
Her poetry is still immensely loved by people with a taste for literature and they offer her great appreciation.
In recognition of her outstanding services in Urdu literature, Parveen Shakir was awarded the Presidential Medal of Excellence in 1990.
Parveen Shakir died in a car accident in Islamabad on December 26, 1994 at the age of 42. But through her beautiful poems, she will always remain fragrant in Chaman Urdu.
