Rawalpindi Police has arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a case registered at Newtown Police Station.
A police spokesperson said that Imran Khan has been arrested in a Newtown police station case, and the PTI founder will be presented in court today to seek physical remand.
The police spokesperson further said that the case has been registered under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act for arson, encroachment, stone pelting, and resisting police.
The spokesperson said that the case has also been registered for other incidents including damage to government property.
It was further said that an investigation team headed by the SSP Investigation is interrogating Imran Khan, and he will be presented in court tomorrow to seek physical remand.
It should be noted that on November 20, the Islamabad High Court had granted bail to Imran Khan in the Toshakhana II case against a bond of Rs 1 million and two sureties and ordered his release.
The High Court had also issued a written order approving Imran Khan’s bail in the Toshakhana II case. Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb had said in a short one-page order that the PTI founder’s bail is granted against a bond worth Rs 1 million and two sureties.
The court had warned in its order that the applicant should not take undue advantage of the bail, as unless the court grants an exception, the applicant will have to appear in the trial court for every hearing.
A Dawn News report had stated that Imran Khan will not be released despite bail in the Toshakhana II case, and the former prime minister needs bail in 66 more cases to be released from jail.
Meanwhile, former federal minister Faisal Vawda had claimed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan is not being released, his problems will increase further.
While talking to the private TV channel ‘Geo News’ program ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada’, he had said that I would not be surprised at all if PTI withdraws the call for protest on November 24.
