ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has restored the initial form of the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet by appointing the Prime Minister as the head to get the country out of the economic challenges and complete the agenda of comprehensive reforms.
The Chairman of the ECC will be the Finance Minister himself. Minister of Economic Affairs, Minister of Commerce, Minister of Power, Minister of Petroleum and Minister of Planning will be members of ECC.
Sources say that the prime minister used to be the head of the ECC, during the Musharraf era, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was the head of the ECC, but later the headship of the ECC was handed over to the finance minister.
According to sources, the Prime Minister believes that Finance Minister Aurangzeb will play his best role for economic reforms, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will continue to play his role to empower the Finance Minister. A Tax Policy Board will be established under the chairmanship of the Finance Minister and this policy board will oversee the issues of tax policy, revenue, coordination, valuation policy and digitization.
Sources say that the Economic Coordination Committee will make it possible to complete the economic agenda of the government. The reconstitution of the Economic Coordination Committee will be an important step towards economic reforms.
