Lahore’s Anti-Corruption Court has reserved its verdict on Hamza Shahbaz’s acquittal in the Ramzan Sugar Mills corruption case.
Anti-Corruption Court Judge Sardar Muhammad Iqbal Dogar heard the Ramzan Sugar Mills reference against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz. The court reserved its verdict on the acquittal of Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz. The verdict will be announced on February 6.
Amjad Pervez, the lawyer for Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz, took the stand that the directive for the drain was issued on the request of Member of Punjab Assembly Maulana Rehmatullah. This project was approved by the Punjab Assembly. Hamza Shahbaz had no role in the issuance of the directive and assumptions cannot be discussed. The engineer had concluded that the drain was installed to benefit Ramzan Sugar Mills. This case has been made on political grounds and there is no need to summon witnesses in it.
Muhammad Waseem of the prosecution said in his arguments that we do not have any witnesses to present. The statements of all the witnesses have been recorded. All the evidence is attached to the file. The statements of seven witnesses have been recorded in this case. The plaintiff Zulfiqar Ali has recorded a statement that he did not make any application. The plaintiff stated that he has no knowledge about the affidavit of constructing a dirty drain at his own expense in 1991. The court asked the public prosecutor in a conversation that what do you say should the statements of other witnesses be taken or not. The public prosecutor said that the MPAs involved in this have died. All the witnesses in this are public. Many witnesses in this case are irrelevant. According to my calculations, the route of the drain has been made correctly. The arguments of the public prosecutor have been completed in the court. The court adjourned the hearing of the case until February 6.
