Lahore: The world’s largest international higher education institution QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) declared Punjab University as the most developing university in Asia.
Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mehmood, while addressing a press conference at the University Club, said that Punjab University has made amazing progress in the QS ranking.
He said that Bilal Akram Shah and Bilal Riaz, the officers of the Pakistani Embassy in the United States, received the award for declaring Punjab University as the most developing institution in five years at the Edudata Summit organized by QS, an international organization in Washington.
He said that in the last five years, Punjab University has won this honor by competing with the universities of China, India, Japan, South Korea and Singapore and in terms of resources, it has won the position by leaving many times larger universities behind.
Dr. Khalid Mahmood said that the global ranking of Punjab University has also increased surprisingly, in the new ranking, Punjab University has been declared as the 570th best university in the world. Compared to last year, the ranking of Punjab University has improved by 170 ranks.
He said that in the previous ranking, Punjab University was among the best 740-750 institutions in the world, while achieving 170 levels of improvement in the global ranking in one year is unusual. Punjab University has been ranked No. 1 in Pakistan in the category of employability of graduates.
He said that after analyzing the reputation and research of five thousand six hundred and sixty three higher education institutions by the QS team, one thousand five hundred three institutions were ranked in which Punjab University got the 570th position in the ranking.
He said that despite the limited resources, thanks to the excellent strategy of the Punjab University administration, the ‘Best Institution for Asia Region Award’ for the last five years is welcome.
He said that 14 higher education institutions have been ranked in Pakistan this year, in which Punjab University ranks first in Pakistan in the ‘Employment Outcomes’ index. This indicator reflects the ability of Punjab University to ensure high level of employment for its graduates.
He said that the data of the last five years of Scopus indexed publications has been used in the latest ranking, in which 8637 Scopus indexed papers have been published in collaboration with Punjab University.
Dr. Khalid Mehmood said that Punjab University was ranked 118th in the world in the employment outcome index, 162nd in the employment reputation index and 566th in the academic reputation index.
He further said that if the government provides sufficient funds to Punjab University, this university has the potential to join the top 300 universities of QS in the next four years.
