The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the deputy commissioners of Gwadar and Dera Bugti to transfer billions of rupees of unused funds back to the government treasury.
According to a report by the Tribune, the meeting chaired by Public Accounts Committee Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen focused on financial irregularities and misuse of public funds, emphasizing accountability of the Balochistan administration.
During the session, the DG Audit Balochistan revealed that there are unused funds worth over Rs 14.5 billion in 50 accounts managed by DC Gwadar, out of which billions of rupees have already been returned.
The committee directed that the funds in inactive accounts should be transferred to the treasury within six months. Public advertisements will be published to inform eligible claimants. Undeclared funds will be returned to the government treasury.
According to a report by the Tribune, a dormant account worth Rs25.820 million was identified in Dera Bugti. The PAC ordered the immediate deposit of these funds in the treasury to address decades of financial mismanagement.
The PAC’s actions highlight its commitment to implementing financial transparency and addressing the long-standing issues of mismanagement in Balochistan.
