Rawalpindi: An investigation has been started on the arrests of members of the assembly without the permission of the Speaker in the protest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
An investigation has been started on PTI’s arrest of assembly members during the Rawalpindi protest without the approval of the speaker of the provincial assembly and in this regard, CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani has determined the persons responsible from the relevant authorities. A report has been sought regarding non-implementation of orders.
According to the details, the member of Provincial Assembly of Punjab Tanveer Aslam elected from PP-19 was arrested in 2 cases of violation of section 144 of anti-terrorism during the protest of 28/29 September.
CPO Rawalpindi has sent a letter to Divisional SPs SP Rawal and SP Pothohar, in which it has been said that there are clear orders and regulations regarding the arrests of the members of the Punjab government and the Speaker of the National and Provincial Assembly that any member The approval of the Speaker of the Assembly is necessary for arrest or detention.
It was further stated in the post that on July 15, you were also instructed by the IG Punjab through a post that before the arrest or detention of any member of the National Assembly or Provincial Assembly of Pakistan, approval should be obtained from the Speaker Assembly. But in the cases registered on 28/29 September 2024, the investigating officers of your division did not do so, so now send a detailed report in this regard by identifying the responsible persons. In case of non-compliance, strict departmental action will be taken against those responsible.
It should be noted that despite the ban imposed under Article 144, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protested in Rawalpindi on September 28/29 under the leadership of local leaders, during which the local police took action and arrested some protesters. Cases will be registered under the provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act including Section 144 and Section 109 etc. in Police Station City and Police Station Waris Khan.
After the registration of the cases, the investigation of the arrested protestors was started and it was revealed that the elected member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly Tanveer Aslam from Constituency PP 19 Rawalpindi was also arrested in these cases. In the report sent to the IG Punjab, CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani has recommended that the Speaker Punjab Assembly should be informed through the Interior Department of Punjab regarding the arrest of the members of the Provincial Assembly in the above mentioned 2 cases.
Even after the 28/29 September and subsequent 4/5 October protests, various cases have been registered in various police stations in Rawalpindi, some of which include PTI founder and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. Local leadership, current and former assembly members are also nominated.
