Karachi: In HBL PSL 9, Islamabad United defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 5 wickets and qualified for the final.
In the second eliminator of the event played in Karachi, Islamabad United achieved the target of 186 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the 19th over due to the unbeaten partnership of 98 runs by Imad Wasim and Hyder Ali.
On behalf of United, Imad Wasim scored 59 and Haider Ali returned to the pavilion not out after scoring 52 runs. Martin Guptill 34, Azam Khan 22, Agha Salman 5, Alex Hales 1 and captain Shadab Khan were dismissed for 0 runs.
On behalf of Peshawar Zalmi, Saim Ayub took 2 wickets while Luke Wood, Mehran Mumtaz and Khurram Shahzad took 1 and 1 wicket respectively.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi scored 185 runs in the stipulated 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets while batting first at the invitation of Islamabad United.
Saeem Ayub and Babar Azam opened Peshawar Zalmi’s innings. Peshawar Zalmi suffered their first loss in the eighth over in the form of Babar Azam who was dismissed for 25 runs on a total score of 72 runs.
Saeem Ayub was outstanding with 73 runs while Mohammad Haris played an innings of 40 runs. Tom Koehler scored 18 runs and Rooman Rupel scored 2 runs. Aamir Jamal scored 17, Hussain Talat remained not out by scoring 8 runs.
For Islamabad United, Naseem Shah took 3 wickets, Shadab Khan and Obaid McCoy took one wicket each.
Islamabad United will face Multan Sultans in the final scheduled at National Stadium Karachi on Monday.
