After 10 years, the Champions League is once again preparing to revive T20 cricket.
According to media reports, the tournament was last held in India in 2014, with Chennai Super Kings winning the title by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final in Bengaluru. In this edition, three teams from India, two from Australia and South Africa and one each from Pakistan, West Indies and New Zealand were included.
The Cricket Boards of India, Australia and England have intensified contacts to restore Champions League T20 cricket.
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins says that discussions between the three boards are ongoing but finding a window for the tournament is difficult. I think the (first edition) of the Champions League was ahead of its time because the scenario was not mature then but it is the right time.
He said that apart from the ICC tournaments, there are also series and franchise leagues, due to which we are facing difficulties, for the Champions League T20, he is in regular discussions with the CEO of Cricket Australia, Nick Hockley, but after meeting Jay Shah. A final decision will be made later.
Nick Cummins said: “We still don’t know which league is the best. IPL, PSL or Big Bash? There is only one way we can check and that is to play Melbourne Stars against Karachi Kings or Mumbai Indians.
